What does Bridging the Gap mean to us?
Back to basics, a review of dictionary definitions.
'Bridge'. A structure carrying a road, path, railway, access corridor, wildlife crossing etc - across water, land, or other obstacle. To allow people, vehicles, wildlife, cross from one side to the other. 'Be' or 'make a bridge' over (something). "For centuries bridges have been symbols of design and architecture, however, the metaphorical symbolism of a bridge has a deeper meaning. They stand as physical manifestations of our innate desire to connect, to overcome obstacles, and to journey towards new horizons." (studycountry.com).
'Gap'. A space or interval, a break in continuity. A space or opening between two things, or in the middle of something, especially where there is a part missing. It can be a physical gap between man-made structures. It can the gap between landform, 'pass between mountain peaks'. The geographical distance that exists between regional landmarks & resources. Philosophical ‘The gap between generations’. A gap can represent a disparity, difference or inequality between two figures. A difference between two views and/or two situations. A lack of understanding between situations. Gaps in knowledge and understanding of a subject, where more research & resources is needed to fill the gaps. A space of opportunity, to improve outcomes.
Bridge, a symbol for Collaboration. To collaborate and achieve mutual goals of direction. Recognize the importance of meaningful partnerships, networks and connections. Foster innovation and enhance our collective capacity for growth and change.
Bridge, as a Pathway. Bridges extend pathways to new territories, enabling access to improved and new opportunities, including health care support, goods & services, medical technology, education. Expansion, diversification, and the exploration of untapped territory. It encourages us to look beyond our comfort zones and venture into new realms where potential for growth of resources awaits, and are needed.
Bridge as a Resilient Foundation. A well-constructed bridge is built to withstand the test of time, 'weathering storms' and adapting to changing environmental circumstances. Resilient, adaptable, innovative, the ability to navigate through challenges and uncertain times.
Improving Regional Cancer & First Nation Cancer outcomes
Concept thoughts and inspiration behind our 'Bridging the Gap' ride from Sydney City to Regional Mid North Coast NSW:
- Symbolism of the bridge as a pathway to connect & collaborate on regional cancer issues.
- Understanding of imbalances and cultural barriers experienced by our First Nation communities, facilitate meaningful conversation.
- Achieve the mission of our Project through our fundraising initiatives and actively make a difference.
